Ginkoe

With Ginkoe we want to provide solutions to deal with the new challenges posed by the increase of chronic diseases and the extension of working life.In this context, we support stakeholders (companies, pension institutions and other partners) to find concrete solutions for the millions of people who work through a disease or have a chronic pathology. With recovery coaching and other individual and group accompaniments, Ginkoe offers an innovative and specialized service to meet highly emerging needs.

Ginkoe’s service is designed around the requirements which have come to light through the increasing prevalence of challenging medical conditions, and the increasing success of Medicine in treating such. It is based on the observation of a lengthening of working life, particularly for executives with key competences.

Convictions

Our mission is to act as support to the parties engaged in health management and its consequences: employers, insurance structures, and other partners, to develop concrete solutions for people who seek to return to work after a serious medical condition which would be likely to have an impact on their professional activity through repeated absences, or serious fatigue, in which the psychosocial component is clearly an important feature. Ginkoe’s Recovery Coaching offer an innovative, and highly effective approach to deal with these emerging needs.

We consider the key feature of the coaching process is to establish balance in the individual, to allow him to take his place fully, within the constraints imposed by any continuing impact of his health condition, empowering him to invest in his projects with vitality and enthusiasm.

Ginkoe was initiated by Annick Dulion, who formulated and developed the concept of Recovery Coaching as an idea which developed from her work experience.

Presentation

Annick Dulion

Annick Dulion has a PhD in Pharmacy, and has worked for 15 years in health promotion, disease prevention, and more largely on health policy issues. She was working with the health insurance sector in France, in health policy and in the initialisation and development of projects in health management.

Over the past 3 years she has been directly involved in management of patient care, observing patients who are coping with serious illnesses, and put together, based on personal experience, and lengthy interfacing with other health professionals, techniques to assist patients in facing up to their health issues, and to the modifications in their lifestyles required to manage such.

To achieve this vision of lifestyle adaptation, she developed coaching techniques for the particular situation of recovery from serious conditions, the specialised area of Recovery Coaching.

The concept of Ginkoe is to spread this practice, to be a service to corporations and former patients to facilitate re-integration of the individual who has suffered a health issue, to rebuild himself into a career path, and to reinvest in his professional activity.

Recovery Coaching

The key features of the Ginkoe Coaching practice are not essentially at variance with other coaching approaches except that they focus on interaction, and on a commitment to communicating on the reality of recovery and the conveying of the continuing impact (if there is such) of the limits imposed by health condition.

Main practice elements

Quelques éléments majeurs de ma pratique de coaching :
  • Active listening, benevolent, synchronized,
  • Non-normative guidance, respectful of individual choices,
  • Powerful and profitable questioning,
  • Listening process sensitive to the words chosen by the individual, as revealing more than their usual content
  • Use of various tools in particular tools developed from recent work in Neurolinguistics
  • A short and rhythmic coaching
  • Attention is placed on empathy, cheerfulness and the development of optimism

My values: Professionalism, Commitment, Efficiency, and Ethics

“The optimal state of inner experience is one in which there is order in consciousness. This happens when psychic energy—or attention—is invested in realistic goals, and when skills match the opportunities for action.”

Why Ginkoe ?

Ginkoe, the word which has become our mascot and brand name is a contraction of two words: Ginkgo and Canoe. Ginkgo Biloba is a very impressive large tree with curiously shaped flat leaves. It has existed unchanged for over 200 million years and is considered a living fossil. Various parts of the tree are used as a source of medicinal and cosmetic products. It represents eternity, and vitality.

Canoë: You take a canoe to cross an expanse of water under your own power, at your own rhythm. It allows the canoeist to pass from one side of the body of water to the other and symbolises the value of coaching to the individual to arrive at his destination.

Ginkoe’s mission is to guide people in recovery to achieve self-fulfilment by empowering their return to professional life.

After more than two years of sick leave, Annick managed to restore my confidence in my ability to carry out an activity on regular basis despite pain and persistant tiredness.

By teaching me to segment my goals, measure my results and congratulate myself on my small successes, Annick allowed me to realize that my illness was not an insuperable obstacle.

Her strength and relevance, in my opinion, lies in her ability to provide specific and concrete advice to address each deadline without ever losing sight of the big picture. She is pragmatic but realistic, motivating but tolerant.

More than anything, she is able to adapt to any situation and give me the ingredients to achieve my goals. With her by my side, I finally feel more serene to continue my path towards a complete vocational rehabilitation.

Follow-up : A year after my first meeting with Annick, I am now embarking on a professional career in a totally new world. I can not believe how far we have come and the obstacles we have overcome thanks to Annick's support. Despite the persistence of the disease, I manage to remove my limiting beliefs and continue to move on the path of a reorientation that allows me to glimpse a professional fulfillment long since disappeared.

Coaching with Annick was very useful for taking a step back and having a more global vision of situations. It also allowed me to avoid over-reacting when my professional entourage, disregarding my state of health, allowed myself to think and make inappropriate judgments.
Today I tend to consider this type of behavior as clumsiness. I have set up strategies to adapt my activity to my energy level without always justifying myself. I learned to verbalize simply what annoys me, to express my needs. My work environment has a lot less influence on me. I have more confidence in myself.
Once again, thank you to Annick for her invaluable contribution.

Follow-up: Sylvie has integrated an audit position with demanding periods (travels and annual closings).
She manages her position by taking a step back, and adapting to different situations taking into account the traces of the disease (pain, limitations in movement).

Annick accompanied me on my return to work after a 10-month sick leave for a second breast cancer. Together we prepared my return, based on an inventory of the requirements of my previous missions and my current abilities and limits. The coaching allowed me to be in an active and constructive posture, while specifying to my employer my constraints, to clarify the situation completely
Thanks to this work, the interviews organizing my return both with the occupational doctor and my supervisor, were clear and led very quickly to a definition of terms that suited me. In my eyes, this is the guarantee of a solid and long term return to work .
After the recovery, Annick's support allowed me to accept these new modalities myself, to define modes of intervention and new postures in my position, and to help me find a new balance between health, private life and professional life.
The alternation of different techniques used, role playing, simulations, corporal translation of situations, work on emotions, have made these coaching sessions playful, adapted over time and support.
All wrapped up in Annick's caring, smiling and professional skills. A real pleasure. I warmly recommend to all those who want this moment of return to work to be an essential step in the road to recovery.

Follow-up: Muriel has resumed her work for a year, she has evolved very positively within her company in a new position and still with therapeutic adjustment of working time
